Hey guys,
I just got a replacement 15 gal tank for my '81. It fits in the spot great, but the filler inlet is 2.25" in diameter. The original tank has a 1" diameter inlet. Is there a hose out there that goes from 1" to 2.25"? Or is there a replacement filler neck that has a larger diameter outlet? I've done some looking but haven't had any luck. You can see my dilemma in the photos.

Thanks,
Justin

Interesting, Maybe the outfit you got it from could help. Other suggestions would be adapters or even getting custom hoses from an outfit like Hose-Man.

The new tank in the pic looks like my 1971 with the large filler hole and the small vent tube.also noticed the mounting hole on corner of tank. mike

Yes, it's an early 70's tank. In the end, since I already have the filler neck and hoses, I just went ahead and ordered the right tank. By the time I buy a new filler neck and hose, it would be close to the same price.

Another solution would be to get an early '70 filler. Then use the '70's hoses .... if you can find them. I've heard that the Willys Midwest (name ?) that specializes in early CJ's has the fill tubes.

Yeah, I looked hard for an early 70's filler, but they seem to be much harder to find that the 78 and up ones.

Rob at Willys Works here in Tucson has'em used.

The MTS link I posted has everything you would need.

At the MTS link, I see the hose, but not the filler neck. The only one they have listed is the same one I have with the 1" neck.

Thanks for the Willy's Works, I'll check them out.

If memory serves, that looks very much like the tank that I had bought for my '74 CJ5 .

Is this not what you were looking for:

That's what is shown for all early Jeeps.

Mine is fairly simple, it doesn't have the recessed filler ....?.... box thing. But the hole is big choking down to the hose. The hose has a fitting for the tank breather in the side. The box could fairly easily be retrofitted to the filler box.

Or to make life easier an adaptor/reducer could be made by cutting off the filler inlet from the old tank and welding a reducer type ring to the tank and the old filler hose creating a reducer for the tank.

Oh, I see. I guess I would need a different tank filler neck bezel for that, and I don't see how the vent works on that one.

In the end, it was cheaper to just order the correct tank, since I already have a new filler neck, hoses and my original filler neck all cleaned up. It was tempting, since having that huge inlet would make filling up faster!

Thanks for all the advice and links guys,
Justin
