Is there any reason for using the double output filter with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 1980 CJ5 ?
would it be ok to use a single output filter?
why the difference?

Yes there is a reason. The design of the fuel system is set up so that there is a return (vapor) line that returns back to the fuel tank, in theory this setup works by minimizing vapor lock caused by the expanding gasoline near the hot engine somewhere to condense back to the fuel tank, and not be a bubbling boiling mess when it gets to the carb and vapor lock up the carb.

A single inlet dual outlet fuel filter, the bigger of the 2 needs to be on the bottom, it goes to the carb, the smaller top line is the return line for gas vapors. The outlet holes should be stacked on top of each other like and over-under shotgun. NOT side by side like an Elmer Fudd gun.

You could do away with the return line. But you need to ensure that it's completely sealed all the way back to the fuel tank.

Thanks for the info. Just installed the correct filter and am good to go. Love the example using the Elmer Fud shotgun:)

Glad I could help :chug:

Thanks Elwood..
I remembered your description of the location and placement of the fuel filter...

It took me a while to find your post, but I'm glad I did....Just finishing the last touches on the new engine, and making all the final connections, and couldnt remember the correct placement, but I KNEW it was you who had talked about it, and showed a pic.

thanks
