Engine 258 breather hose filter needed - Picture and possible part #?

Hello, I've been searching all over the web for this little filter (sits inside the make up air hose) that keeps dirt from entering the valve cover and can't it.

Here's a picture and a possible Jeep part #: 1 318 2487 I couldn't find it on google or anything.

That is the crankcase breather filter. Since the cap in the valve cover is a non-vented type, there must be a source of fresh air to enter when the PCV valve is open and allowing vacuum from the manifold to suck in crankcase vapors. That filter ensures only clean air is entering. So any filter in that line should work fine. I've seen people use a small generic inline fuel filter in the tubing for this purpose. But you can buy crankcase filters that mount inside the air breather housing. The Crown # J3236695 is what is listed for the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , although it doesn't look like your pic. A Purolator B13153 would probably work also.

You could also just insert a generic filter in the valve cover as well, eliminating the tube running to the air breather assembly, or connect some other generic filter to the tubing.

Here is the factory unit. I'm surprised it's rare because there must have been millions of these made. I like the look of the properly molded hose going in the air cleaner and everything is vintage under my hood so I'm trying to stay away from the K&N etc aftermarket look.

Looks like an easy DIY copper tubing with some brillo stuffed inside. Could be wrong.
