i recently got a jeep and the gas gauge does not work. dont know how long it has not worked for but i hear it is a pain in the *** to drop the tank and change the sending unit. i was thinking of possibly cutting the back storage area up until the seat, almost like a flip door and possibly put hinges on it so i could get to the fuel sending unit easy. what do you guys think of this?? i am just curious if it would be a good idea or not.

i've dropped my tank at least 4 times!!!
i don't know about access holes but one
can buy unsinkable floats on line. seems that
the manufacturer of the current replacement
sending units is pretty shakey. i had one float
last 1 day! if you search a little, you'll be rewarded.

It's not to bad to drop the tank any bolts that won't come off can be cut off

how many bolts are holding on the gas tank?? i guess i could try dropping it first and then if it is to much of a pain the i could figure something else out. any help on dropping the gas tank wou;d be appreciated. thanks!!

There are 3 bolts across the front and 5 nuts across the back and you will need to pull the 2 hoses for your fill.

Ford also sells a brass float that fits a cj, $15 the last I knew.

so could anyone recommend a good site to buy a fuel sending unit?? should i get one and then replace the float with a brass one or the unsinkable one?? thanks!!
