Does anyone have experience with or advice on changing a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l cc 6 cyl to fuel injection? Is this complicated?

I have never done it myself but I have heard good things about the Howell TBI Fuel Injection kit. $1200
Howell Engine Developments 2587280 19 - Howell Fuel Injection Conversion for 72-80 Jeep® CJ-5, CJ-6 & CJ-7 with 258c.i. 6 Cylinder - Quadratec

Fuel injection kits have improved greatly over the last few years. They used to be hard to get dialed in.
Quadratec says the kit can be installed in 2 to 4 hours. (remember I didn't say it. the salesman did)

I installed the Mopar multi port system on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , You have 4 ways to go that I am aware of and they are a new Mopar mpi kit, junkyard mpi kit off a 95ish 4.0 motor, Howell TBI kit and a junkyarded tbi system of various gm vehicles I beleive.
The new in the box kit is gona be fairly easy to install just more expensive than trying to do the junkyard versions whitch conversely will be more difficult and time consuming possibly, the choice is yours.
You list Ontario is the Ontario, Can. or Ontario, Ca.? If emmissions are of concern that is another factor to consider in choosing the right way to go.

Any reason why a 4.0 OBD 1 system could`nt be retro fitted ?
A flywheel/flexplate for the crank sensor. Bellhousing for the opening for the crank sensor. Of course the head/ intake would be a logical step.

Seems like it would work with JY/off the shelf parts.

Thats what I was refering to with the 95ish 4.0 system, not sure the exact year OBD2 came about but you got the idea.

Sorry I missed that Sasquach.

OBD11 came out in 97. You could use 91 to 95 4.0

No worries.:)

It's not to say you could not do a OBDII system upgrade but as I understand it would be more difficult and undesireable for that matter.

Hi friends
I think it's better to ask it here; Does anyone have any experience of Mega Squrit?
I want to get rid of carburetor! and the engine is AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ...
Can I use 1980s gm v6 tbi parts?

Looking at the website, I only saw one throttle body, which was rated at 1215 cfm. That appears to be a bit on the large side for a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engine. The company is located in Georgia, U.S.A. I did not see any relation to 1980s GM V6 tbi parts. There are also a number of other efi kits availible in the U.S. to choose from, like ones made by Howell and Affordable that come to mind, which use those type of parts.

:)I think if you were prepared to take a complete motor out of a vehicle along with a complete harness and ECM then you may have something.

But most of these more eloboate systems require an aftermarket harness built to cancell all the add on sensors that the computor is looking for that are no longer there for it to work properly...........look at the MSD, Holley, Comp Cams etc. stand alone systems .....gets you where you want to go with FI but without most of the retrofit problems............just my opinion.

:D:D:D:D

I put a Holley 1D FI Projection kit on. Love it!

I got it used on eBay for $500. Holley still sells spare parts as well.

Uses new water temp, O2 sensor and a tach connection.

Fully programmable without a computer connected to the ECM. An air-fuel ratio meter really helps dial it in.
