- 1977 CJ5, 232, T18, AMC 20...still trying to figure the rest out!
Fellow Jeepers -
I recently purchased a 1977 CJ5 project. It has the original 1-barrel Carter carb. The Jeep was running really rich, some black smoke and super smelly. I had the carb completely re-built and it runs great. However, I still get a bit of black smoke and am still getting fumigated by the fuel smell. I'm thinking perhaps the fuel pump might be the culprit. It looks pretty new and I'm thinking the pressure might be too high. Does this sound right and if so, does anyone know what the pressure should be? I'm waiting for my Chilton's to arrive in the mail and I'm going CRAZY!!! Thanks for any suggestions!
