Fuel problems

I am trying to convert back to a mechanical fuel pump in my 86 CJ7 and im running into some problems.
I have got it in place and bolted down but i cannot get it to pump any gas.
any thoughts on what the problem might be?

Try and siphon some fuel from the supply end to help get it going. If it can flow out on its own with the gas cap removed that would be great. Things like a clogged fuel sock, cracks or kinks on the fuel line, or a poor fuel tank vent can dry out and ruin a pump.

i tried siphoning gas from the line that connects to the carb and i got nothing.
i also tried putting the electrical fuel back on to pump some gas to the mechanical pump and that did not work either.
would putting gas in the line at the carb help get it primed?

I've actually gotten the fuel pump on where the arm was no riding correctly to operate.

May try restabbing it, bbut from what you're saying about not being able to siphon, something else may be your problem. Where is the filter for the fuel line?

Try to start before the pup / filter first. Make sure you "can" get fuel through the hose. then one at a time try the next piece in the line.

Also, when you say "i tried siphoning gas from the line that connects to the carb and i got nothing" do you mean air or literally couldn't suck like vacuum? (so is line leaking or clogged)

the fuel filter is right after the tank and it has fuel in it.
we tried to suck the line to see if we could get anything and we didnt even get any gas vapor or gas.
it feels like i have a clog in the pump itself but i dont understand how because it is litterally brand new out of the box.

If i restab it, does the arm on the pump need to go over the lobe or under it?
i was told to put it over it so that it is compressed when it is bolted in..

You should be able to siphon gas from the fuel tank, did you remove the gas cap also? If not it can affect the siphoning process. You might want to remove that fuel filter after the tank as it might be causing problems too. I used to have one of those free flowing see thru filters so I could watch for and water in the input line prior to the pump. Getting fuel in the line will help remove the air in that line also.

where would you sujest putting a new filter at?

when siphoning should i do it before the pump or after the pump?

I had the oem style 3 hole filter in its original location and that see thru filter just before the inlet at the fuel pump. That way I would be able to see larger that came in and it would not go into the fuel pump. I have also seen water in it as I had stated. I have since gone to fuel injection and have too much fuel pressure for that little see through job. I also have since then cleaned out the gas tank. You are only able to siphon gas before the fuel pump, this will remove the air in the system to get the fuel pump going.
