I have an 81 CJ7 that is stalling when the tank is over half way filled. Below half a tank and it runs fine. Several months back the fuel tank and fuel sending unit and hoses were replaced. I have also replaced the weber carb, distributor, fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires and ignition control module.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If it is due to the fuel tank, I can only think the problem would be poor tank venting or something else not allowing fuel to flow thru the line. If it is poor or no venting it would be evident when the fuel cap is removed where you would hear a rush of air entering the tank. Installing a fuel pressure gauge after the fuel pump and keeping an eye on that would be a way to verify fuel flow.

My jeep with AMC 304 is doing the same thing. There is a definite smell of raw gas seemingly always present. New after market tank, but signs of slight leak from sending unit area. I need to drop my tank I guess and see what's going on.

I’m with Stanz81CJ but again have to ask about the fuel vapor canister. If it is missing the tank venting could messed up and even so the canister can become super saturate and cause problems. I know a lot of jeepers toss them out and don’t use one but how the extraction is completed is important.
