Misc Fuel tank fitment

New to the jeep life my 1974 CJ5 had a plastic tank in it I was pretty sure it was not for my jeep (it was hitting everything) so I ordered a 15gal metal tank that is supposed to be for a 74 cj5 and I can’t seem to figure out how to get it to stop making contact with the rear differential it hits bad and it is as far back as I can fit it if anyone has any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I’ll post some pictures

Something is wrong with your install. It looks like your diff is very far set back.
The tank should bolt up where I put the arrows using an angle bracket.



Looks like your missing the tank mounting brackets. You can see what the diff gap should be. This is a 74.

I might be Way Off Course here....
BUT,
Those look like New Rear Springs in the Picture. Did you Install Them correctly? You might have "Flipped" them End for End and have Moved the Axle Back.
Usually one end is longer from the "Center Bolt".
OR
Did the Previous Owner install a different set of Springs?
And,
If the Diff is Hitting the Tank Rock Shield too, what is the Exhaust Doing Going over the Axle?
Is that messed up?

Not off base. The diff looks set back to me.
