I have a 79 CJ7 with a 94 4.0.
My question is can an E2000 electric fuel pump suck enough vacuum to collapse a fuel tank?
I had a dent in my fuel tank from another outing. About six weeks ago I replaced the fuel pump (from an in tank E7000 to an in line E2000) and skid plate and noticed the dent. I have noticed when removing the gas cap when filling a rush of air.
After a three hour run at highway speeds I stopped for fuel and noticed more fuel consumption after getting going again and once home saw it was leaking and a crease in the dent where it was leaking.
Could the pump suck enough vacuum to cause the dent to crease and form a leak? Do I need to vent the tank?
I am using the original fuel line as a return. Is that enough?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
John
