I have a good shot at picking this combo up out of a full size Cherokee. It has that crazy Full size linkage but I believe its a wide ratio with the 6.32 first. Anything with this combo that makes it difficult to put in a CJ7 ?

I seem to remember someone throwing out a pic of this combo in a Cj. Im just trying to make sure it'll be a rather easy combo to use. I understand Ill need the correct length driveshafts and all , but what else should I be prepared for?

How long is the input shaft?
Not familar with what linkage you are referring too?
If you pull the shift cover off 17 teeth on the input shaft gear up front = 6.32

Other than the input having to be changed, I know of no issues with this combo, I have a T-18 /Dana 20 combo in mine, so it can't be that difficult :dunno:

I have a request in for a measurement on the input shaft. IIRC the Full size Jeep has a longer shaft correct? If so I'll have to look into the degree of difficulty in replacing it.

Heres a pic of the dual rail linkage.

Pete: What bellhousing and engine combo was it in? If it matches what your using then length is the only real question..........Standard depth bellhousings for Jeeps to a T/18 were not easy to find.........most had an adaptor on them for a specific vechile and length to the shifter hince the long input shaft...........get a picture might help.

I can mount my bell housing to my T-18 tonight or tomorrow if you wish and give you some dims... Let me know...

I had some issues with the CP earlier and shut it down after I couldnt get it to close out. And I was trying to pad my posts.

Thanks for the links. Im gonna spend Black Friday going over alot of things since itll be nice and quiet here. :)

I dont think we'll have to go that far. But if we do I'll take you up on that offer. :)

That makes alot of sense. Ive looked at the bellhousing a bunch of times over now and it does seem pretty deep. Once he gets back to me with the input shaft measurement I can figure it all out. Is swapping the input shaft difficult? These are the only other pics I have of it right now.

:)Pete:

Swapping the input shaft requires taking the complete gear set out excluding the counter shaft in some cases ............(and if your that far in putting some new roller bearings on the counter shaft is now a good time)
THe input shaft also has loose bearings on the inside that will fall as soon as you take it apart.........................the real problem is can you find the correct length 17 tooth input shaft? , and it sounds like Novak may have that covered , but that brings you back to the Bell housing depth. Some of these had an adaptor on the Bell Housing for length which might just need to be removed?
Its all about length and how that effects the driveshaft lengths in the vechile of installation.
Most of these standard transmissions are about 12.0 long with a 6.5" stickout for the input shaft. On the Jeep version it bolts directly to the Transfer Case and the Ford version takes a 1" adaptor.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. :)

After reading through the info on Novaks site I think Im going to pass on it. It looks like itll take a decent amount more cash on top of the $500 Id be paying for it to make it work with a Dana 300 and get it set up for a Cj.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll just keep saving for now.

petescj If the Dana 20 come with the tranny and it is the wide range T-18 I would just use the Dana 20 combo. This would eliminate the cost of an adapter to the Dana 300 . I don't know what your plans are, or if the Dana 20 is good. I know the 20 is not as low of ratio as the Dana 300 but the low first gear in the T-18 should make up for this, and I remember people saying the 20 is as strong as the 300. Just another option.:)

I appreciate the response. Im looking at clocking a Dana 300 to give more clearance and fab a tummy tuck skid plate from the start or ( most likely  ) at a later date. The Dana 20 is bigger and I never looked into clocking it. Ive had this set up floating around in my tiny little brain for awhile now. Everything you said is spot on though. :chug:
Now what Im going to put in front of that combo is what really hurts the above mentioned tiny brain. :bang:

:laugh::laugh:
