Issue 1: I am having a problem with my 80' cj, the gas is not flowing through to the fuel pump. I pulled the line from the tank to the pump and turned it over a couple of times, but no gas. When connected to the pump, there is no fuel getting to the carb either. I have replaced the fuel filter so I don't think its that. I feel like its maybe a crack in the line or a blockage in the tank? I bought a new fuel pump and it still didnt do anything...I am pretty new to the jeep world but I want to fix it on my own. I don't fully understand how to check for vaccum leaks...i understand the overall idea that it needs a vaccum to suck the fuel in, but need some advise...

Issue 2: Before that issue came up, i had an issue keeping the jeep running...It ran great for a while, and then I replaced the valve cover, in an attempt to stop oil leaking out of the cover. since then it would crank up, and idle fine, but when i pulled it down the drive, and ran it up the street, it would die, within 1/4 mile. I had to crank it up several times just toget it back into the garage...anyone experience this? Any advise or thoughts on this?

much thanks!

You could have issues with the fuel tank pickup sock, vent system, or cracked fuel line.

First, I'm not that familiar with the newer CJ's so take this for what's worth. I see two possibilities here:

1) and most likely, a plugged intake in the tank, and 2) problems with the charcoal canister system that could cause a vacuum in the tank.

Number 2 can easily be diagnosed by just trying to run it with a loose gas cap. Number 1 may be temporarily fixed by putting a little compressed air in the tank fuel line on the tank side of the fuel pump. That will usually clear the obstruction in the pick-up but all that stuff is still in the tank and will likely plug it again. Eventually the tank will need either cleaned or replaced.

And TAKE THE GAS CAP OFF BEFORE PUTTING ANY AIR TO THAT LINE!

check for a kinked line coming off the fuel tank. i replaced my tank recently, and inadvertently had a sharp bend in the line coming off the top of the tank. it would crank up and act ok for a bit, but would die soon after.
