Just filled my CJ up for the first time since I got it Saturday. I found out it LEAKS! It's a 80 CJ7 ...and it does have a plastic tank. Looks like it coming out the top of the tank...not around the filler hose.

if your looking for the source of the leak just ignite a wet looking spot and follow the flames back to the source! LOL PLEASE DONT DO THAT, just joking...

on a more serious note, i would use the opportunity to upgrade to a larger cap. tank. thats what i would do if in your shoes.

but, if thats not a possibility...i dont know about repairing fuel tanks or any fuel leaks so i will wait for some one else to chime in. good luck and be safe

rwood, It most likely has an aftermarket tank since it's poly. If there is a 4inch-ish piece of metal in between the frame and tank straps it's probably a 21 gal tank. The most likely culprit will be a rotted fuel/vent line on the top of the tank. It could also be that the sending unit pickup assembly was not install correctly when the poly tank was installed. Either way, drain off as much fuel as possible and drop the tank. I would recommend changing all the hoses, including the fillers as well.

I was going to replace the filler hose anyways. Just got the filler hose and vent hose in. $6.41 filler hose and $4.75 the vent hose. Now I just need to find out what size I need for the Supply and return line. And the vent hoses on the other side of the tank. I can also get a metal 15 gallon tank for $85.00...if I need it. These Jeep parts are a lot cheaper than my 89 GT Mustang parts.

Thanks for any help.
