I have a 1985 CJ7 is the tank a 15 gallon tank? I just got a new gauge from summit. Its an auto meter gauge. I would like to know the size of my tank. Thanks for any help.

Also who should I buy a new sending unit from. Is the Crown name a good supplier.

To my knowledge, the only supplier. I did see a stainless steel net pick up sock at Morris that I thought was cool.

Thank you I will price one from morris. I can get one through an ebay supplier for 30 something bucks.

If the tank itself is metal it's 15 gallon, plastic is 20 gallon. They both have a metal skid plate/cradle so you have to get up in there or drop it to find out.

Thanks I have an access panel so that replacing the unit will be no problem. From what iv

THANKS I have an access panel so installing the unit will be simple. From what I have seen all the sending units for sale all look alike.

I went by this link when I figured out what size my tank was which was 15 gallon and plastic. I figure it is an aftermarket tank. I checked the dimensions on this page and compared it with my tank. Whether it's plastic or metal these dimensions should tell you what you have. MTS COMPANY, L.C. - Jeep CJ/YJ Gas Tanks

You may already know but the sending units are different in terms of giving accurate gauge readings...i'm pretty sure mechanically they will fit of course, but if you put a 15 gallon sending unit in a 20gallon tank it will read incorrectly, and from other reading I don't think the 20 gallon sending unit will even fit in the 15 gallon tank because it's too long.

If you do a search on amazon you'll come up with 20 and the 15 and can compare measurements to what you currently have if they give dimensions.

The brochure, at least for 1982, says 15 and 20 gallon. My owners manual (82) says 14.8 and 20 gal. capacities. But I've always heard the optional tank was a 21 gallon. So who really knows for sure???
