HI, has anybody done a conversion on the gas tank? Im thinkin there might be a stock tank on a car that would fit a CJ5 instead of payin the big money for a new one?? also thinkin of adding the TBI at the same time..
How big of a tank are you looking for?I've seen some pricey ones but the poly tanks arent too bad. Heck, I scored a 21 gallon poly tank last year for a $100 on CL.
1979 Jeep CJ5 with 304 V8, T18 Transmission, Dana 20 Transfer case with TeraLow 3:1 gears, 4.88 axle gears, Detroit Locker up front and Ox Locker in back with 1 piece axle shafts, 36" SuperSwamper SX Tires, Shackle reversal, MileMarker Hydraulic winch, MSD 6A ignition.
From the factory most CJs had 15 gallon tanks but some had 21 gallons.
You can swap our yours for a 21. I have been thinking of doing this too. The gas tank is polyethylene but the gas tank has a steel skid plate. Most gas tank conversions have extensions for the skid plate. Check out this link: MTS COMPANY, L.C. - Jeep fuel tanks
That looks really nice but I have a buddy who thought maybe a chevy caprice had a tank that might slide up in the cj. but i havnt been able to come up with anybody that has tried it yet...
