Hello
I had strong gas smell coming from my Jeep.
Determined it was the gas tank (old 21 gallon MTS plastic tank)
Removed the tank and found that they two straps holding the tank in place caused the top of the tank to bend in and this caused a leak on the sending unit gasket (no longer flat with the bend).
I also found rotten hoses going to the tank and the gas fill line was shot.
I ordered a new MTS 0050 XL tank - Great guys at MTS great customer support especially Loren. The new tank cost ~$300 with hoses. The new tank strengthened the sending unit hole and assembly.
I had to rebuild the filler gas line and vent hose using a the stock MTS filler line and vent and a new nipple from Morris 4X4. I had to cut the filler and vent and change the timing because they would not fit. Used a aluminum pipe and two more clamps to change the angle and length.
The MTS tank works well and I did not need to adjust the sending unit calibration. 12 gallons shows 1/2 full, and no more gas smell.
