Gas Tank Something broke Pics Attached

Gas Tank Something broke Pics Attached
I just replaced mine with a stock replacement from morris. new tank, sender and oring shipped to me for $130. Mine was broken at the same spot. I chose to get the shorter neck and vent tube version becuase i hope it has less stress on the necks were they tend to crack. i used 2.25" exhaust tube to make up the lost neck length. It fills faster and no dripping when filling now too. $130 and it was done, no explosions or redos.

MHO!

Could you send me a pic? I think we bought the same tank 5355314 or maybe not cause I bought the one that had the longer neck just like my old one....I had hell with the hoses so I decided to just use my old original ones everything was WAY to close together frame vent and filler neck in my opinion it cost me for the tank filler hose and vent $180 w/ shipping but if I would have skipped out on the hoses like a should have would have been $130 oh well

Thx :chug:

I know it sounds totally rigged, but PO on my CJ5 used an epoxy putty especially made for fuel tanks on my main filler tube where it meets the tank and its surprisingly tough.

I really had to pull on that thing to get the hose off at one point (I'm talking prying w/ screwdrivers and stuff, because I figured the tank was junk anyways) and the epoxy didn't break.

Kept the tank after seeing that. If it can hold up to that beating its fine for normal duty.

I will try to find a moment tomorrow to get some pics. i will also show the area were I used some washers to shim the tank UP to give a little clearence for the neck resting on the frame. That alone should make it last longer.

Got some pics! The tank plumbing is from the old tank with the long neck. I cut the hose and inserted short 2.25" exhaust tubes. This gives it a little more flexibility and it fills better at the pump, no more splash back. I think it is becuase the neck (were it crosses the frame) is no longer crushed down to clear the frame, more free flowing. I did raise the rear of the tank only, about 5/8" that worked great, now the hose clamp doe not touch the frame, but just barely.

That looks great man, that was smart thinking I wish I would have done that. Oh well it seems to be working pretty well so far no leaks.

I like your bumper and ax to lol

Glad it's working! We bought this CJ5 last oct and it is just now ready for the trails. I had it out a few weeks ago to find the little details that needed fixing. The tank was first on the list. I had never put more than $20 in the tank, not enough to leak.

Here are some pics of the bumper and rack:
