Hello all!
I am brand new to your site and I hope some of you can help me out.I am rebuilding a 1972 CJ5 and I need to replace my gauges I was wondering if there is a good place to purchase new gauges at a good price and good quality. I have researched this and find that gauges are quite expensive. I would like to purchase a gauge set if they sell them in a set. I am also looking at getting a tilting steering column cause I am a pretty tall guy and need the little extra room to get into my bucket seats. Thanks for your help.!!

Hello Hanson and welcome! :chug:

I have a 72 also! :)

What is 'quite expensive' and do you need just the temp and fuel gauge that were in the speedo? Morris has the pair (round version) for $62 and we get 10% off here at the forums. http://www.jeep4x4center.com/product-information.asp?number=8126919K

A tilt wheel is a pretty god idea but I decided not to do that with mine. Do you have power steering? With power I just added a small steering wheel and I fit pretty good. I'm 6'1" and about 200...

Let us know. :)

there are a number of places to buy good guages, (quadratech, morris, 4wd hardware, your local parts house (or on a trip to LV, since your close). Look at the top of this page for links and discounts...
I bought a full set of guages including speedo for less than $400 thru Summit racing.

As for combining a CJ5 and a tall person (my wife is 6') probably the best long term solution is a wheelwell notch. Search for it on google for the many write-ups available.
So how do you like Kingman? I used to live in Dolan Springs!

Wow...thanks for all the help!...The tilt wheel is just an idea right now...I do not have power steering right now...I am just in the middle of finishing the body work and prep for paint.!..So I guess I am kind of jumping the gun alittle...lol...but I am going to be design my own dash so I am preparing myself...but thanks for all the help and I just found my favorite website!

Thanks for the great compliment!

Well, like I said... I have a 72 and most of us can help you with PS swap - there are many posts here about just that topic...

As for the gauges... Is sixty for stock replacements too much or are you looking at adding aftermarkets?

I created a complete new dash for my 72 out of aluminum and went with all aftermarket gauges (including the speedo). What ever you decide - it will always be better then NO gauges!

I have rebuilt the motor as stock. I am not looking at changing much from stock just to add little touches here and there...but for the most part the jeep will be stock...(I like the look)

The Gauges I dont mind the plain to the extreme I just want them to match, look good as if they were stock, and WoRK!...lol I am constructing my dash out of diamond plate aluminum. I just hope I can make it work...

here is my attempt at a custom dash insert made from diamond plate and S/W guages...
SANY0293.webp

Someday I might get to install it in the Cj!

Wow Hanson! That CJ looks clean!

You will gain about 4~6 inches with the notch cut (at the shortest point) - it depends on your seat and how you make the cut. If you go more then that, you can get tire rub... :)

As for the gauges, I would recommend shopping around on websites online and seeing what is out there. Search the company name and attempt to find reviews about them on other websites. You don't want to get burnt especially if you are spending a lot of money.

notch the wheel wells!! of course ! Why didn't I think of that??
BEFORE I painted it!!:bang:

I am seeing these guages in cars and saw them on Muscle car tv showm the other day, my next set will be them
