Wondering what makes the pads return to "open" after brake is released.

I'm just finishing up install of new hub bearings, spindle, new hub/rotor, caliper, and brake pads - with much help from this forum, Thank You :notworthy:

I can clearly see how the the caliper pushes on the pads to squeeze them against the rotor to make things stop, but I would think there should be some sort of spring or something to pull the pads back to an open position. Or do they just always rub lightly on the rotor?

Also think that the new rotor may be slightly warped. If I pull the pads out a little, then spin the wheel, there is one spot that rubs as it rotates.
Issue with that?

Thanks.

On disk brakes, the pads will rub against the rotors, but there is no pressure from the pads to the rotors unless pressure is applied. The rotors should run true, provided they were turned and installed correctly. Excessive heat from overuse can warp the rotors quite easily if you have the cheap Chinese versions. You should notice a wobble in your front end when applying brakes with warped rotors.

I work at a parts store and seen rotors warped right out of the box. I work at Oreilly auto and we turn rotors. I have had a lot of people ask me to turn them right out of the box.

Yea what they said ^^

Thanks for great info. All makes sense.
Now I'm really pissed thinking that I gotta take it all apart again (and of course I took the time to put on many, many coats of flat black paint, after priming, to the hub).

Here we go again...
