Sorry I have been gone lately. Unfortunately this trend will continue for a while. Work calls, and I do have to make a living!

Thought I would tell you about my 'wind down' day though.

I talked to my friend the night before and expressed my willingness to ride. He owns several (close to twenty) horses, but 'Thor' was on my mind. Now 'Thor' is not your every day horse, he stands at a most gallant 18.5 Arabian hands and can be a bit temperamental. SJ (name changed to protect the innocent) agreed to let me tame 'Thor'. As if that could ever happen, very few ever ride this magnificent beast - just mounting him from the wrong side will make a bad day!

If you have never riden or even seen a horse such as this, I implore you to take a trip if you can, these animals beg for attention - and they deserve it! I had riden 'Thor' before, but it had been several years. I wasn't sure if he would remember me. We locked eyes, he remembered me! Then he fricken bit me! Not enough to break bones (easily could of), but he drew first blood! Oh, it was on!

You have been a bit scarce, I had been pondering the possibility of calling the gov. of Georgia and having him send out the guard.
I must agree that this whole working for a living thing is becoming a real PITA. I am working on an arrangement with my employer to just have the check mailed to the house. As soon as I have the details worked out I will let you in on the process.

So, after 'Thor' bit me, I smacked him right on his snout. I was bleeding, he was hurt - he won - but I wasn't going to let him know that!

Saddled him up and went for a ride.

The gash on my fore head is just the beginning of my day! Almost received a ticket for being on a horse! Yep! Not kidding!

lol, we had one that had to be ridden at a minimum of 3 days and even then he'd act up. Any longer than that and you had to break him, like he'd never been ridden.

About 22 years ago, I had freshly moved to CA and was looking for a horse. I read a ad about this Appy, 18 hands high, gelding, 3 years old. Has attitude;
So I thought how much of an attitude can a horse have that these dumb west coasters have to sell him.
I showed up around 10 am and they brought him out of the barn into the corral. I walked up to him and walked him a bit first by the halter, nice horse, he was actually enjoyed interaction as we talked, so I slipped the hackamore I had on him and jumped on bare back. Holy he did not like that and went running for the edge of the corral wanting to throw me, I jumped off and grabbed the reins. He swung around and we ended up staring each other in the face for about a minute till he looked away. So I threw a 50 pound sack of feed on his back and led him around. The owners were asking what my intentions were. about 30 minutes later I jumped on with the sack of feed and he let me lead him around.
So I saddled him, gave the owner 500 dollars and my drivers license and took him for a ride in the desert, Yes this horse had attitude. I loved it. I was bit, I was thrown, I was taken for a run until he finally figured I was not giving up.
I brought him back 4 hours later, they had called the sheriffs thinking I had stolen him. Well I had to chase him for 45 minutes after he threw me. y shirt was ripped and my pants split. I was dirty and he was a mess, thorns and cockle burrs, lathered up and a mess. I walked in and told them I would give them another 600 and that was all.
I rode that horse for another 10 years all over SoCal. I cried like a baby when he came up lame and I had to sell him to a place that takes on lame horses and allows them to pasture out. He never got past the biting bit, he would walk up behind me an nip me as if teasing me, If I did not ride him once a week he would try to throw me the next till we had a face to face and I bribed him with a few lumps of sugar. We spent several long weeks when I was on vacation camping out using a rented pack mule to carry supplies.
I still think back to the day I went to visit Windy and found out he had died during the week. They said that after I left from my visits he always was in high spirits. And I remember the days we would spend on trail on long weeks, He actually would wake me in the morning, funny, I never had to hobble him at night. He was the favorite horse I have ever owned and have never bought one since.

Funny thing is, till the last time I saw him he would always bite me, and tehn we would stare at each other face to face till he looked way, he always knew I had sugar lumps in my pocket for him and once he had them he was like my best friend.
The place I pastured him till he died told me he never bit them. They think he was just trying to tell me I was not his boss, just his friend. I will accept that.

It's amazing how we can get so close to an animal. I'm pals to the smallest (my cat) and to the largest - the 1500 lbs bastard who (as you posted) bites me!

Started out as a quick ride, but then he got mean. Not mean as if he wanted to hurt me, but mean as if he wanted to teach me a lesson.

Now, this is where the gash on my for head comes in. We were riding full steam and I should have ducked. I did not! I hit a tree limb at 100%. OUCH! I'm pretty sure 'Thor' smiled!

After wiping the blood from my head, wrapped myself up using a neckerchief... I was good to go!

On our cool down, we trotted along a long dirt road. Sweaty we were, myself bleading and 'Thor' ozzing water. It was a good time!

Never saw this coming!

Sheriff Joe - (not really Joe), pulled up behind us a gave a quick burst of the siren - not a good thing to do. 'Thor' was not amused...

A 100dbl siren and a temperamental horse do not get along!

'Thor' took off! And I mean TOOK OFF! We had ridden before - but nothing like this. This was a scary ride. A very scary ride...

'Joe' followed, he stayed way back - when I slowed he jokingly offered a ticket. We kicked the 35 mph limit by almost 15 mph!
