Hi guys, I'm a newbie here due to a new addition to the familiy.
I just traded this guy a project go cart
for a :
1975 CJ5
motor 351C
Saginaw power steering
C6 Transmission
cv drive shaft
31" tires
straight body no rust
new soft top/doors/bamini
warn 7000 winch
custom roll cage

I am pretty sure I got the better end, because I had $20 into the go cart. Of coarse it needs work, but the guy said it sat due to the rear end going out. It is a pretty clean cj.

Is this a good setup to start with? I believe the diffs are 30/44.

I don't see how you could go wrong for $20.
Got any pic's. ?

how come i never get deal like this:eek:. just for the straight body and frame it's woth the $20.:chug::censored::censored:

Welcome 351c is it a ford 351 Cleveland?

That'll be something else with the Cleveland in it. Lets see some pictures!

Yes it has the cleveland 351, Its actually a 400 based on the 351. I have to get it going, but it's been sitting for about a year. I just noticed tonight it has Rancho springs on it or at least they are painted with rancho on them. I'll post pic later of the jeep. I just rattle canned it primer. The wife didn't like the camo job it had. The guy I got it from was low on cash and didn't have the funds to finish it. I had something he had wanted and we did the trade. Great deal, but it does have some back dmv fees on it. Like $500.

Ya Ford went through a couple periods where they were changing things alot.

So it is actually a factory 400 then and not a 351? I think they call that a 400M. Is the timing cover part of the block?

Actually the 400m and the 351m where the same block. But the 351c is a different casting for the block why I say that the 351 clevland had the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 302. The 400 modified and 351m used the same bolt pattern as the 429/460 there are exceptions on the early 400m which are pretty rare they had both bolt patterns casted in the block.

Thanks for the info. I'll be starting it up this weekend I hope.

Can anyone tell how big my lift is? It has ranch springs, but not sure if they ate stock or the 2.5" it also has a 2" body on 31" tires. I noticed it also has a long rest shackle about 5-6" . I was wanting to do a spring over on it. Can I run 33"? I dont want bigger than 33" tires.

Should be the M; hes got a C6 in there.

My jeep came with a lift and I google the numbers to find out what springs they were; might try that.

From the pictures it looks like 33s will fit. Rear shackle looks pretty long too?

could the rear shackSt be an issue? I'm not doing a spring over I decided.

I don't see why they would be. Looks like it sits level; might just be the picture making them look longer. They look like the stock C channel ones.

I think Rancho makes a 2.5-3" lift for the CJ5 so thats probably what you have.

Hey guys check this out.

I just fired thing 400m up on the first turn of the key after a few years of sitting. I put some oil down in the llifters and some gas in the carb. This thing didn't even hesitate a second. It fired right up. Just wanted to share this one. Thanks again for the answers.

Woah . . . . . I will double your investment and give you 40 bucks for the winch. . . . :D

Right on man thats awesome. Great score!

I cleaned up the motor some. I am now going to tackle the rear end rebuild. IMG_20120831_160548.webp

I know have about $AMC 150 all together inluding parts. Tackling the Dana 44 rear to add the carrier this weekend.

Go the rear end done today and doing brakes tomorrow. It actually went smooth on the rear end. Thanks for the help. I found that someone actually was building this jeep pretty nice.
It has
400m V8
power sterring
dual flowmasters
2.5 rancho leafs
2" body lift
autometer gauges
new soft top
tilt steering
c6 Transmission
hurst shifter
cv driveline
custom big fuel tank
custom skid plate on tank
boxed frame
custom Transfer Case drop
Transmission cooler
msd ignition
