Can't seem to keep the rear view mirror stuck to the windshield. I've followed the instructions in the little packet religiously, but after a few weeks, the mirror just pops off. Granted the 40 degree temperature swings from day to day probably don't help. Can anyone recommend a good glue?

I have no recommendations but may I ask what isn't working??
I am going to have a need myself in a week or two with the new windshield and mirror.
as far as super glue goes I have had very good luck with "Gorilla" super glue but it will be very easy to get too much on. it is a gel. I have not used it on glass.

I'm apparently not getting a good bond on the glass. When it pops off, there is a good bond on the metal. I've used the same glue kit on my pickup with good success, but 3 tries now on the CJ have all failed.

Ken, you might have to wait until the weather is more stable (temperature-wise). I've used the windshield glue with good success, but it was in a pretty controlled atmosphere as far as humidity and temperature.

When I did mine, I used a 2 part epoxy. It has held for 6 years.

CJim is right. Those big swings in temps are less the likelihood of a good bond.

I've been using PLUMBERS' GOOP as the go-to adhesive ever since Hurricane Isabel (Maryland 2003) when GOOP keep water out of the seams fitting plywood over big windows. It is extremely tough, doesn't stretch very much when cured under strain, and seems to stick to about anything. The tube I'm holding is labeled "Amazing Goop Plumbing" and is produced by Eclectic Products, Inc, Pineville, LA 71360.

You'll likely need to support any solid object against gravity for maybe 24 hrs, until partial cure. Full cure seems to need 3 days or so.

The two questions I can't answer are 'what about UV resistance?' and 'How well does it stick to glass?'. I don't have data, only my gut says good to go. Maybe you'll have to re-glue every five years or so - not too bad.

There is a glue just for this if you go by a auto glass shop they will glue it back on for free and it takes about 2min. I have done so many if I had a $1 for each one I would be rich.

X2 Like some paints have a temp and humidity range for best performance and adhesion of their product check the directions and see what the temp range should be when using your product.:)

Thanks for the replys. I may just go the 'professional' route and hit up the local auto glass shop.

The trick is to use sand paper. Just make a small dime sized spot. Mechanic told dime this after trying the store bought kit about two times.
Have never had a problem after that.

Now, that makes sense! I was thinking along the line of finding something to etch the surface of the glass to give the glue something to bond to. Sandpaper! Why do I always look for complicated solutions to simple problems.

Not the most earth shaking follow up, but I have to say the sandpaper trick has worked like a charm. It's been several months, with lots of variation in temp/humidity, and the mirror is still stuck solid.
