ON THE HUNT AGAIN
Got some bucks from misc parts sales and scrounging.
Eyeing a '47 willy's or a '74 DJ5. Thinking the DJ5 just
cause it'd be fun to make it 4wd.
I'll paint it up like the old mail jeeps then make it 4wd
and add a lift. Make it the ultimate mail delivery jeep.

I'll stop by the post office and ask for a job then point out
that I have my own mail jeep, LOL

That old Flat fender is also calling me, so we'll see.
Nothing set in stone but I'm looking, LOL.

Damn rat rods.....keep distracting me

TO BE CONTINUED...

The old Flat Fenders are pretty sweet also.....I know...Make a flat fender rat rod! :D

Now hold on before ya go a hittin that ban button that could be pretty cool

not to mention one of this months rags....uhh...consumer magazines is doing that, and the letters column has a pic of a channeled flattie in it.

there is nothing new under the sun....

Out here on the "rural route" where I live, the mail carriers have to furnish
their own vehicles.

IMO the "Flat Fender" is the only choice. That will be my next project.
I won't get rid of my "8" maybe the "Wrangler" though.

DJ = INSTABAN! ....Especially when there is a flattie choice! I am disapointed!

Hmmm. Not sure about this one. Ive seen plenty of flatties , heck I had one. Only ever saw one 4 wd converted Dj ... And it was pretty cool. Sounds like a cool project though either way you go. I wouldnt be against either. Now if you do niether , well thats just :censored: ed up. :D

DJ= Clown car. :D

Flattie= bad <-BAD WORD->.

The flatfender rat rod has been done, see google images.

Now true the Flatfender would be awsome, but it's been done, nothing new.

But a 4wd lifted DJ5 painted like a mail jeep would be awsome.
It'd be like the general lee is to charger, you expect to see it painted that way.
A mail jeep on the trails of Moab = SICK!

 A mail Jeep on MOAB (or any other good trail) = roll over waiting to happen

I've owned both of the choices and my choice would be a flattie any day.

A few random facts about a DJ off the top of my head:
they are front heavy. the engine sits well in front of the front axle compared to a CJ.
They are top heavy with the metal top on, and have no traction with it cut off (2wd).
I couldn't imagine a lift would help with that at all.
The doors present a problem with fitting large tires. I managed 30" tires on 6" rims max. (no lift)
The front axle is a tube with Dana 30 knuckles. they can be swapped around so the tie rod is behind the axle tube. I've seen a vega steering box used when in this position.
The drivers seat can be used in the passenger position, using the same bolt holes that hold the parcel tray in place.
To use a normal drive axle up front, the entire steering will have to change. Either left hand steering conversion (using CJ parts?), or a complete custom built system. IIRC the DJ steering box is a one-off thing not used on anything else.

I bet there is more, but the only thing I like to use a DJ for is the front axle as a trailer axle. Weld a 4x12x0.25" plate between the tie rod and the axle tube to keep it straight. Its roughly the same width, so it will track behind your CJ.

Its been a few years so I might have some details off, but I think the choice is clear!

My vote is for the Willys ;)

If I got the mail jeep I'd convert it to 4x4.
I forget the years but some are based on the CJ5 and others the CJ6 .
I'd probably do a full width axle swap also. I have a line on a ford 9 and 44 from a old bronco (the good ones).
Plus if it's based on the CJ6 I'd do a motor,Transmission , tcase swap anyway.
So we'll see it depends on whats available when the cash comes in.

Hmmmm......trailer.

neither idiot will answer their adds so the search continues.
found a 1990 jeep wrangler for a great price.
But I'd have to swap the grill out. LOL
