Well I'm in a jeep again, kinda?!?

It's a 1999, 4.0, auto, 4x4.
Figure it's cheap, easy to work on, they made like 1M of em and I can haul all my and the fam. and I have cruise, AC, etc.
Ugh...it's not a CJ but at least it has rear leaf springs and the right motor.
Now to lift it and get the right tires and stance.
Figure a 4" should be a good start, that is when I get back from business trips. Work always gets in the way.

There's nothing wrong with a Cherokee. I've been eyeing a one for a while cant deside if I want to pull the trigger or not. Really need to finish my CJ

I have an '07 Grand that Wifey uses for a dd, prior to that it was a '96 Grand. It is great for the longer and easier trails that I don't have to tow to the trailhead. They get more miles in the dirt than the CJ does. With more room for camping gear and a good place to sleep when the weather gets nasty.

Congrats Brock XJ's are very capable rigs with minimal work. My wife's has 186k on the clock and runs like new,and my buddies has 290k on it and runs darn good too. Make sure you look into a Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE) if your gonna lift it, otherwise the rear drive shaft can pull out of the Transfer Case during hard wheeling.

Thats a solid start and a good year for the Cherokee. Their a little tough to get bigger tires on but my '88 with 33s was really capable and youve got a better foundation.

Yeah I did my reading and research and went with the 99 it's supposed to have the better motor, more power and better head. The auto is supposed to be pretty stout. I've got a line on a Dana 44 out of an older XJ so hopefully it'll make for an easy swap. Scrounging around the junk yard soon for a Transmission cooler off a big truck like a F-250, some Dakota leafs and some ZJ springs, then I'll scrounge or purchase the misc items, like the sye, shocks, etc. Once I have all the hard parts gathered I'll pick up tires and lift it.
However I've found some new MTR's and wheels for like $700 I may just put a small budget boost on it and roll those for awhile, think they are 245/75/15 or 16's.
Gotta travel for work again so it'll give me time to think about it.

Besides being a little more family friendly, the thing that really sold me is how many there are and how easy they are to mod and work with. One of the 4x4 rags had an article on a XJ recently and that got me thinking about it, again lol. That and people around here apparently have solid gold jeeps hidden under all that rust and .

With the shear quantity of XJ's and how easy they are to mod. I'm contemplating starting my own shop. Pick up all these XJ's cheap part out the hammered ones and build up the good ones. The shop would work double duty. Sell parts for xj's and build and sell turn-key xj's at different level's. Maybe customize others rigs if business is good.
Eh...it's rolling around in there. I'll build mine on the cheap and toss it up for sale just to see what interest it gets and decide from there. I'm starting to get tired of working for other people.

Yep, built one up 5 years ago and have regretted selling it ever since! Easy to work on if I can build one! Congrats!
