I scotch brited the inner fenders and wells. I'm going at em one more time tommorow, then I'm going to sand a bit. There is some pitted rust that I would like to fill to clean it up before painting. Is there something to spray down to at least slow the rust? Any suggestions on rattle paint please

Second, while engine is out, going after the front end. Was going to use purple power a wire brush and rinse it. Should I at least coat the frame with something after done?

I like RustOleum....primer and paint!

I used this product called Jasco Welcome to JASCO® It changes the composition of the metal. It works like a champ, but it smells horrid!! Oh and nothing says class like spray on truck bedliner...lol. It would be pretty good for fender wells depending upon what your plans are with the Jeep. The only problem with that spray on truck bedliner stuff is it doesn't come out very even so its pretty easy to get "runs" and drips.

I thought undercoating or liner would be perfect for the wells? Should I just paint em?

I use POR 15 it chemically neutralizes the rust permanently then you can paint over that with whatever... I plan on having my wheel wells line-x'ed with the inside of the tub, it would be a good idea to make sure that you dont have any bare metal before its coated

POR-15 works on bare metal too. You just have to etch it with Metal-Ready.

Thanks guys! The fenders are stripped and are being primed. Should I prime the wheel wells even though they are being undercoated?

yes you don't want to undercoat over bare metal.

I looked at the fenders today and they are toast. im blasting them on monday and rhino is spraying them for 60 bucks. done. Ok, today I pressure washed all the crud off the engine compartment and frame rails and degreased everything. It was a terrible experience. Brake cleaner and purple power and hours of wire brush grinding. It is outside to dry tonight. Now what is my next step? I want to do the rails and certain parts. Do I buy a rustoleum primer meant for rusty surfaces then just paint on rustoleum paint? I'm not looking for professional results..

:wtf: there are many directions you can go.....I pulled the tub and am painting the whole frame and whole tub, or you sand and paint what you can access, pulling the tub gets better results but opens a whole new can of worms. rustoleum works great paint it over everything so your paint has something to stick to

Yeah, sticking to accepssible areas. I will then use their rust primer and black paint, thanks!

Got the primer, ground some more. Would a "fill primer" be a good idea in the rough areas?

Yes, a filler primer is a lot thicker and is made to fill in better the a standard primer.

Cool, I will hit the bad stuff with that. Thanks for the quick response.

You are very welcome :chug:
