I think it had already been sanded anyways. The texture was gone from it. All smooth. I'll probably go the nutmeg route. As long as no jeep aficionado is going to notice it and tell me I did it all wrong. Anyone know a good substitute for the original vinyl? I've got someone to redo my seats but she wants me to get my own vinyl. She usually does common colors.

I found this on a google search. It says 81-85. I have the original dealer picture book that came with my CJ that lists all the options for the all the models availble that year. It's for 79, but maybe it's not far off.

I'll check when I get home from work and report back.

ETA: oh :dung:. Scramblers didn't come out until 81. Duh.

I am not a fan of chrome, but I love the wheels. When I first got my Scrambler I thought I would sell them and go with black to match my theme, but I love them now. Just look so right on a CJ.
 
I saw pictures of a members Sherwood green metallic and it has the wheels painted nutmeg and a chrome trim ring. It looked beautiful but I'm not sure about with the white.

Paint code indicates the body was white to start with ( 9B ). As for seat belts, '82 was the transition year for adding shoulder harness. I did a little article on "Is Your Jeep Original". You'd be surprised at how many irregularities I found. The build sheet is the only piece of paper that would indicate what your Jeep came with. There are some exceptions to that though. If you want everything to be original, you have some hard decisions to make. I suggest you make your Jeep what you want. If you want an original style Jeep, buy one with the papers to prove it. Good luck with your build, but most of all - have fun with your Jeep.
 
I don't think the top color will matter on your restoration considering that all Jeeps came without a top from the manufacturer. All tops were dealer options which is why we can legally drive without one.

Many CJ's have been sold with no top at all. Perfectly legal to operate on the street.

What I tried to say was that whether it came with or without a top has no bearing on a vehicle being 'street legal' to operate under federal law.
