I have a 84 CJ7 and bought a hard top from a craislist ad well I get home and put it on and its like its to long by about 2-3 inches. In order for the rear part to line up I had to let the windshield hinge forward some. Anyone have any idea of whats going on here. I have no idea what year the top is it was on a fiberglass jeep.

Most likely you have a Yj hardtop. They were slightly longer but are still usable. You can tell the difference by the liftgates. The Yj version is pretty much all glass while the Cj version has a complete frame around the glass. Yj versions also have vents on the rear side area. You'll have to adjust your windshield forward a bit to use the yj version. 2 or 3 in. is a bit much though. When I had the old Yj hardtop on mine I backed it up to a tree and slowly persuaded the rear corner in toward the tub.:D The liftgate below is Cj. The Full top shown is Yj

Do you have hard doors that go with the top? If so how do they line up with the windshield?

well thinking back on it is was more like an inch or so not 2-3 inches
but it is a CJ7 top not the wrangler it has a frame around the lift gate
I have older slip latch doors for it off an 79 CJ7 and they don't line up for :dung:. the windshield line is to far forward and the rear part of the door hit the top. At first it thought maybe my tub was sagging in the middle but I have wrangler half door the fit great no problems at all. Thanks for all the input.

Being that its a CJ7 top then its all going to be in shimming the windshield and adjusting the door hinges to make it all mate up. It can be a real pain in the butt. Id start by loosening the door hinges and pulling up and forward little by little till it seats right. Look at the door gap all the way around the bottom and get that even. Then adjust the windshield, then the top.
