Hello all!
I'm having a hell of a time finding a hardtop for my 76 CJ5 . Will any CJ5 top fit or does it have to be year specific? There's one on CL for a 56. I'm guessing that wouldn't fit?
Any info would be great, thanks!

I like it but $$$$. Does anyone run a bikini and wind jammer in the winter? Is it okay if it gets a few ponds of snow on it?

Just put a soft top on it. I ran one for years in the winter.

Unfortunately not all CJ windshields are created equal. Starting in 1955 running through 1975 CJ5 & 6s have windshields that are 59” wide. 1976 through 1986 the windshields change to 55” in width and in fact the 55” width carries through the end of the TJ run in 2006. There are other differences too. For example the windshield on the 1972 to 1975 CJs sat 90 degree angle to the hood where the 1976 & up windshields all lean backwards slightly to facilitate better aerodynamics. So the long and the short of it is the 1956 hardtop you found will not fit on your 1976 CJ.

Used hardtops are available or 1976 & up CJ 5s but are few and far between. Most common will be the Acme fiberglass version although Meyers made a steel top too that were sold through Jeep dealers as an OEM option and will actually have a jeep logo on it. When I’ve seen either brand of hardtop for sale the asking price has been anything from $1000 to $1800 with $1200 most common. One off the major problems with finding a top is that they are expensive to ship limiting opportunities.

I've read this in a few places, but my '72/'73 CJ5 has a 59" windshield that slants. Pic below.

Looks like it is leaning back to me; going to look into it and see where my info failed. The 59” width is true though.
