I'v been wanting to beef up the steering box mount, and i'v looking online and read reviews......So if anyone here has any "real life reviews" on any steering box mounts or braces any feed back would be awesome, thanks.
:notworthy:

I have a brace like the one Torx posted the link to, mine isn't RR but looks the same. Seems to work ok. Someone here posted a link to a real nice one but I didn't save the link, maybe they will repost it here.
Believe it or not I still run the stock box mount.

I'm leaning towards Big baddy, is has studs that attach the box to the mount and looks alot stronger then the RR, it has a double gusset where the RR has only one with a smaller weld. Made in Murica' too:chug:!!

Here is a RockyRidge HD steering box mount on my CJ7 with 35's and a heavy AMC 304 up front. The torque that I get from the 35's not wanting to go the way the steering wheel commands will loosen the pressed-steel 2-piece OEM mount in a heartbeat.

This one is as tight as Richard's hatband after two years. Flexing plates and bolts working loose used to be my biggest steering trouble.

That looks like the rugged ridge one, it has the "clam shell" bracket? the reviews read that it could not be used properly? is urs the way it goes? it seems like it could be fliped and turnned 180' but the bolt hole on the clam bracket and the hole in the frame dont line up???

If I flip it, I can't get the mounting plate for the winch to bolt down. As you see it, I use the independent piece as a brace and a stress-spreader to move the force of the steering box to the metal outside the bolt-hole.

I've got the Rugged Ridge HD steering box mount, and the rugged ridge brace. When I did the replacement I found my stock mount had a hug crack. I've been running it now for about 5 years and it has been great.
The only issue I had was with the cross brace which broke a weld. I reinforced it and rewelded it. But the HD brace has been flawless.

Look at the Big Daddy ($75.00) steering box bracket. I have it and it is heavy duty, very clean installation and looks to be a great addition. I plan to run the Rugged Ridge steering box brace in conjunction with the Big Daddy... never can have too much insurance on the trail!

where did you find it for $75?

Bought it on ebay for $75. 4WD Hardware has it for $124... probably worth the price but I always scrounge for deals! Ebay and Craigslist is where I usually start my search for parts.

Does anyone happen to have the install instructions for the Big Daddy steering box mount, and/or the parts list? I dug up a mount but I don't have any of the related parts for it. I'm missing everything like spacers and such so a list would really help so I don't have to spend hours trying to reverse engineer this thing!

so quick question. do you guys recommend the brace or the bracket..hell or both? may upgrade my steering links and may grab one or the other too. Also is there a brace that doesnt use the hole for the spring mount as my bolt is snapped and the PO welded it all up?

If I'm understanding you right, you need the bracket one way or the other. I recommend the brace as well, but unless you wheel it a lot, the one I got may be over-kill...

The brace and bracket both do not use the holes for spring mount. The shackle hangers should be completely separate unless something custom has been done :D

was gonna do the brace and just keep the factory box mount? didnt know if the mount was overkill if you did the brace...and the pdf for the brace says to remove the rear bolt for the hanger, mines snapped oof in the frame?

sorry i meant the hanger on the frame:)

Hmm... You may be right... It's been a while on mine...

This photo here does appear to either go behind or use the bolt for the back hanger...

I'll look at mine tonight if I can remember :) I think I may have just needed to remove it to get the brace in there right. Which can be glossed over with some additional customization possibly :D

The way I see it, with what ever you use to help hold up steering box, it is always a good idea to keep an eye on that front crossmember for cracks. When they do crack, get a pro to seal it up.

I wish yours would fit my 7. But I think I'll go that style vs the bracket. And just look for another hole or drill out the broken bolt
