Heater and vent controls

I am working my way up from the bottom and now I am at the heater. I finally got all the heater and vent controls to slide . Only broke one of the retainers that hold the slider in the dash. Are they replaceable? And how do you get it out?

Also is the vent outside over the dash supposed to be open when using the heater. Half a pull opens the passenger side ,full pull opens the drivers side. It seems like water would come in in the heat position. Any way thats how mine is working. Forgot to say mine is a 1983 CJ5 .

I think you will need to replace the whole cable but it won't be too much cash. check our morris 4x4 for the heater brake down and parts.
actually the vent leaks all the time when it is raining. I think you will find a drain on the duct someplace.

Lube the out of the cable (Teflon bike lube, preferably) before you install. Off the Jeep, it is much easier and will help prevent it from sticking!

Here's a pic courtesy of Elwood in case you lose your way.There should be a rubber hose by the battery that drains the vent.Its about 1 1/4" in diameter
