No 4 1/4" nuts on the firewall side. Disconnect the cab
cables and hoses. Fiberglass housing splits and put the core in. Cores are not that expensive.

actually it is incredibly easy, if you have ever removed a heater core from any other automobile ever built. there is no way to compare the two.

The dash doesn't have to be removed but loosening up the right side makes things a lot easier. Being the member of a couple of Jeep sites I always keep an eye out for intriguing stuff. I ran across this several ago and have completed it. This mod apparently DRASTICALLY improves air flow for the defroster especially.

One trick is to make certain to get the short shaft PM102 motor for this upgrade. ('73 Chevy Blazer w/350 motor and air conditioning) I've owned a '77 Chevy Blazer with A/C and the 400 (a SIX row radiator on that thing) and that thing blew right hard. See the following links and don't forget to seal up with silicone or other the entire box;

I changed out my heater core a couple years ago. I have the rollbar front legs running down beside the dash. It makes it a little tougher to do, but still doable. I also replaced some of the seals in side housing with weather stripping.

This is all true if he has the heater unit that sticks through the firewall... in 76 they didn't have this, and I am not sure about 77.

If it sticks through the firewall, you can do all the stuff mentioned, if it does not, you need to get a new motor. I just did this a year ago and let me tell you, it wasn't easy finding one.
