Please look at this diagram. http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/attachments/f7/12615d1356891204-heater-cabling-heater-cabling.jpg In the top left hand you will see where right above the driver fresh air vent is a lever with a rod that goes along the top of the vents and attaches to a lever noted as the "off-heat-vent." In trying to fix my heat, I found that this bar is not attached at the lever that is in the top left of the diagram. In pic one you can see the rod and end piece and in the background where I believe it is supposed to attach as shown in the diagram. I just can't figure out how this attaches or if I am missing a piece. Also, I found the spring that hooks onto the rod and attached piece (you can see the small hole on the end) but nowhere to hook the other end of the spring in the piece in the background..so maybe I am missing a piece or there is a way these go together. Any help in getting this together would be great...maybe if someone can get a pic of theirs attached...if I can see it, I am sure I can figure this out. thanks in advance.

Bump. Working with this I an starting to think I am missing a piece...or a piece has broken off. Problem is, I can't find the piece listed in any of the parts catalogs.... Once again, if someone has their CJ7 apart and can snap a pic of this that would be great.

About half way down in this thread is as clear a picture as you will get.

Heater control questions - JeepForum.com

Looks like you are missing a few pieces.

This guy sells a lot of used jeep parts on ebay and should be able to sell you what you need. I bought a shifter from him and asked if he had a hood rod prop and he did.

And the more I look at the one piece you have in the picture, the more I scratch my head. I have an 86 and it looks exactly like the one in the link I provided.

Thanks, but that one is the center lever, which is good. Its the far upper left one in this pic that is giving me the fits. Actually, that article was helpful. It appears that that cable is for the drivers vent...which I guess I can do without or just leave in an open position all the time. Playing with the cable, I am going to replace it. The mechanism works, but the cable isn't working smoothly so I will add that to my list.

What do you think you are missing? I have a spare heater box out in the garage maybe I can help you out.

No idea...maybe nothing...I may just be an idiot and can't figure out how the go together...all I need is a pic of the darn thing.

Tomorrow when I get off work I will see if I can get a good pic of mine and post it for you.

So I found a pic of the lever, but it is too blurred to really tell. It's the one right above the "at" in the word "heat."

Ok see if this helps you any

Well that's it in the first pic. So somehow it is attached to that little nipple you can clearly see in my first pic...that nipple must move with the rod to open and close the drivers vent. Hmmm...is it somehow tac welded to that? Thanks mucho Mtnwhir. Looking closer at your pic there appears to be some sort of washer between the rod piece and the base piece.

Tomorrow I will see if that hole thing comes off. If it will I send it to.

Thanks...I didn't see how though. I suspect the whole rod and base are one part and it connects to the lever in your second pic as a single piece. And I haven't seen any spare part that looks like it could be it on any parts site.

So I just went out to the garage and looked at it it just has two rivets that hold it to the plastic and the rod is held by a clip. piece of cake I will have it off tomorrow if you want it.
