I have a 1979 CJ5 , I wanted to replace my front brake shoes , My rotor is 7/8" and its a 2 bolt caliper . I got the shoes at Pep boys . The shoes fit in the caliper but the assembly wont fit over the rotor, the meat on the shoes is to thick. The shoe material is 3/8" , What shoes do I need to order , I'm having a hell of a time finding info. I took them back to pep boys and they said that's all that come up in the computer
Thanks in advance

In the late 70s they put heavier brakes on some models like the Levis edition and maybe others. The rotors were thicker and the calipers and brake pads were bigger on these models. You may have a mixed set.

I answer'd your question on the other forum.......:D
Take a "C" clamp and compress the caliper's piston ALL THE WAY back inside the caliper housing.
Is there a NAPA in your area?

When you compress the piston, make sure you have the MC cover off but go slow or you'll shoot fluid everywhere.

I have the big brakes on mine, 6 bolts and the rotor is 1.2 +/- thick.
