I bought a heater box from an Ebay vendor. It arrived cracked to hell. I complained - a lot - and 3 weeks later, they sent another... but it's not from the right year CJ.

I'm building an '81 CJ. The "replacement" box doesn't work with the cables, etc.

Can anyone ID what the other one came from? Pre-'76? Post--'86?
The darker/shiny black at the top of the photo is the replacement box. It "fits" in that the basic shape is correct. But none of the '81 CJ cables work with it.

The replacement (shiny black) is not a CJ5 /CJ7 1974-1976, 1977 Type 1 heater, according to the pictures in the parts manual.

It also does not appear to be the Type 2, which would cover mid 1977-1980.

The main difference would be rather the blower motor and electrical components extend into the engine compartment, or not.

The shiny black one appears to have some sort of levers/linkages mounted in the middle of the housing, whereas yours does not; is this the main difference your noticing?
If so, I have no picture of that difference in the parts manual.

The cables for 1981-and later are all the same.

Your original unit is what is pictured in the Jeep parts manual, for what that's worth.

So, I don't know what you have without better, closer photos of the unit in question.

Unfortunately, sometimes the photos in Jeep parts manuals don't illustrate exactly what we're looking at or is on the vehicle.

Thanks Hagar. I wonder if it's from an early YJ.

oops, didn't even think about Wrangler....
yep, it's Wrangler as shown in the parts manual.
