Help on unknown oil leak!

Im having problems hunting down an oil leak. Im not sure if its comming out from between the valve cover and the engine or if its comming out from the front. But either way its coating my engine in oil slowly and its been a pain in the butt to locate. Anyone got any ideas if i just replace the valve cover, which is stock, if it will fix this issue im having?

go to the carwash, clean the engine, drive it home and look for the oil. it may take a trip or two but you will narrow it down pretty easily.

I had the same thing on mine, oil all over the side. I replaced my valve cover gasket and valve cover and it no longer leaks. I used a cork gasket.

Cool thanks guys, appreciate it. Ive got a new valve cover on order, and ill prob be making a trip to the car wash to wash it down before i take it in, just to double check! Thanks again!

I'd do as IO said, that way you know where it's comming from.
but it's probally the valve cover gasket.

I know this is super old, but I've been reading old posts on oil leaks to figure out what to do with mine, and I wanted to ask about how you clean the engine. I can't imagine I would just spray down the whole thing, would I?

I would and have..... careful when washing near the distributor and try not to get too much water in the carb.

I have had super greasy engines before that I degreased with several cans of engine cleaner/de greaser, just plastic bag the disto, carb, and alt hit the car wash and it will be so much cleaner. (I also hate oil leaks)

Greezoff in the spray bottle works great.
