REALLY having trouble finding the slot on the fan switch saft to release the knob. Any suggestions....Have spent most of the morning on this. Thanks.

I think the fan switch does have a release while the cables do not. I will not swear to the 80s but the 77 has a release you push from the back, I think. I will take a look when the sun comes up hopefully before you have at it with a hammer and chisel.:D

Yeah....There is suppse to be a notch on the underneath side of the fan knob [which I have been able to locate] that a flat blade screwdriver can be used to disengage a spring that while pulling the knob it will come off.

I am not sure if the area where the slot is was damaged or if I have damaged it or if it is just stubborn, but I cannot get it to release.

are you trying to pull it out away from the shaft??
