HELP Removing Fan Knob on Dash

REALLY having trouble finding the slot on the fan switch saft to release the knob. Any suggestions....Have spent most of the morning on this. Thanks.

If it's the OEM style like this;

The knob is molded plastic and has to be cut off with a razor blade, exacto knife or something similar.



If you have the aftermarket knobs that look like this;

Somewhere on the knob itself there is a tiny little allen head set screw holding it in place.

I think the fan switch does have a release while the cables do not. I will not swear to the 80s but the 77 has a release you push from the back, I think. I will take a look when the sun comes up hopefully before you have at it with a hammer and chisel.

Yeah....There is suppse to be a notch on the underneath side of the fan knob [which I have been able to locate] that a flat blade screwdriver can be used to disengage a spring that while pulling the knob it will come off.

I am not sure if the area where the slot is was damaged or if I have damaged it or if it is just stubborn, but I cannot get it to release.

are you trying to pull it out away from the shaft??
