i have a hardtop for my 86 CJ7 and it fits pretty good all over except for the windshield area. i have the top set as far back as i can but i still have gaps at the top of the windshield area:

i bought the doors used and had them repainted last year and bought all new seals for them as well. the main door seal works great all around but as you can see i still have gaps at the top. i tried loosening the windshield frame and pulling it back (towards the body) but the lip on the top of the hardtop prevents me from moving them back any further. if it matters i also installed a lange kwik kit II instead of using the sheet metal screws along the top of the window frame.

i hope i am just missing something simple here. anyone have any thoughts?

Kinda looks like the metal plate from the top is bent to far forward and needs to flattened out some to let your windshield move towards the doors to seal that gap up

How is the fit on the back side of the door, in the rounded contours?

that sounds like a fairly easy thing to do. i'll give it a shot. thanks.

bent the metal plate straight and it really didn't do anything. moved the top back as far as i could, actually a little too far as you can see a gap between it and the tailgate when looking inside from outside, still have gaps at the tops of the doors. they are smaller but still there.

at this point i am going to chalk it up to a bad fitting aftermarket top. i moved it all around, had a friend help me push/pull the windshield frame back as far as we could and could not get it completely sealed. i'll push the top forward a bit to get rid of the tailgate gap and get some weather stripping from home depot and seal them up as best i can with that and call it a day.

Just by chance, you removed the soft top channels that attach to the top of the windshield.

That is very strange that it won't fit right
