HELP! with Steering!

HELP! with Steering!
lol, yea they can be a pain. Good luck
If you end up taking them out I would use lock tight when you put them back in.

Ok, so I'm a little late on this one. I had the exact same problem in my CJ7 . I replaced the tie rod and ends, drag link and ends. Also the bushings from the shackle to the frame. All of this helped but didn't fix all the slop in the steering. After replacing the steering box that was worn out, drives like a dream with a 4" skyjacker lift and 33"x12.5" tires. Hope this helps and I can only speak from my experience.

I have a 55 cj and am having the same basic problem. I did notice that the shaft that the pittman arm attaches to on the steering box is moving side to side some as the steering wheel is moved. Can this be fixed by replacing the bushing around the shaft? Have never worked on a steering box but am mechanically inclined so think I may be able to repair it. If it isn't simple to do, where could I go to find a replacement steering box?

I just got a replacement at Autozone. It was around $130 with a core. Works great and fixed the prob. Before that, I had replaced bushings from shackel to frame, Tierod w/ ends and drag link w/ ends. I was going to buy a PSC bud decided to wait to get a better set up down the road. This one works great so far.

Well, for the original poster (80 CJ7 power steering) it's part number 7535 from Autozone, or 7907 for manual steering. That’s also with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l motor. I now have a SBC 350 but same box/gear. It was a pain to change, but still better than a rebuild. I had a hard time finding anything for a 55 CJ5 though. There are sites that you can find the parts at but they are expensive. I could post some sites if you cant find anything. Hope this helps.
