Hey guys...
I had a question about a grand wagoneer...
A couple years ago I got a donor engine from this vehicle, and dont know the exact year. Obviously a 360 is generally a 360, but I'd like to know what year this is really from...

any help..?

thanks
brian

is the Jeep still around ?
post the VIN number if possible
based on the color of the Jeep, my guess is 1985 or 1986

No, several years ago I pulled the engine from a guys jeep in south orlando...
Never saw the guy, or his jeep before or since...

It might have been a craigslist ad... LONG GONE

engine build code then
tag attached to pass side valve cover
only other method I know....

I think, by the tag, it could be a 1974..??
Could the pics be of a model from back then.???

tag says 711N17

by this site:
amc valve cover id

well, the code can repeat....
from the later manual it decodes:
7 = 1987
11 = November
N = V8 360 8.25 to 1 compression ratio, 2BBl carb
17 = 17th day of the month

the vehicle pictured is from the mid 80s, could even be an 87.
definetly not 1974 vintage

Thanks Hagar... appreciate the help..
Like I said, this isnt life or death... I'd just like to know when getting parts, and for general knowledge. Parts should be the same for most years, but .................................

It is at least an '84 as that is when the "Grand" name got attached to differentiate it from the XJ-based version. Previous loaded Wagoneers carried the "Limited " tag. I'd say you are safe with saying it is an '87 from the numbers you provided.

thanks incommando..!

its good to know
