alright guys... Want to be able to switch between low and high beams just like everyone else. The PO has the plug on the wires shorted to itself with a little jumper wire... the switch is there in the floor ( i know they suck and probably wont last long) and i want it to work. its a painless wiring harness... is this as simple as plugging it in? I would think he would've done this if so... i'll probably get a new switch just to ensure its integrity/longevity. anyways, any ideas? Surely I'll have to check the wiring from te switch to the headlights, but not too sure how that works so any help would be appreciated... '77 5 by the way

The PO probably melted the 3 lug connector. They are available on the web. It is a plug in.

so obviously one of the three lugs should be positive, the other neg and the other? what about the pull switch in the dash? would he have had to modify the wiring to get the lows to be on always somehow near the switch or not?

It's a three way switch. One lug (usually center) is positive 12v entry, and each other lug is switched 12v. Click once to low beam and click to the other lug to high.

One wire is hot and one goes to the high and one to low. the lights ground to the body. just find the one of three wires that has power to ground and it is switched between the other two. The high beam should be twin wires to the connector with one wire going to the high beam indicater light on the dash.

CJ is right.

1. 12V in

2. Low beam circuit

3. High beam circuit

ah gotcha... tryin to get into this electrical stuff... it finally interests me (after years of headache and heartache)

derekcj5, funny thing... Pretty soon you will be able to know CJ electrical without even consulting manuals... That is the great thing about them!

We all learn them!

I have been doing a lot of re wiring lately, looking at schematics until my eyes cross. I am way past ready to replace a clutch or do U joints, something that does not involve wire.:bounce:
