Just got my brand new 78 CJ5 . It has a AMC 304 with a 3spd Transmission . Just would like to know what to look for and look out for in this jeep. My first jeep, have a Camaro that I love to drive and tinker with, but always wanted a 78 cj, so now one dream is complete. Like I say, I'm totally new to the jeep and this forum, but if anybody has any tips or pointers, let me know. Any experiences with this type of jeep or direction to go please let me know also. Will post pics and more detail of my cj as soon as I can. But any discussions related to a helpful newbie direction would be greatly appreciated

hey man, i just bought my 78 CJ5 today too, pretty cool huh. if you get any tips or anything please forward them to me. i dont really know anything about cars, engines, etc but i love cj's and figured it wouldn't be too hard

Nice, how's the condition of yours? I'll post some pics as soon as I can. Will let ya know what I can. It's my new toy, but I live and work far from it right now. Can't wait to play with it. Send some pix

Welcome to the club boys. First thing you need to know; that TOY stands for
Just
Empty
Every
Pocket.

Second, buy a Chiltons or Haynes Manual. I have a Haynes, but don't think it goes into enough detail sometimes.

Third, carry some basic tools around with you AT ALL TIMES!! And other little items like fuses, but most of all have lots of fun and get use to everyone staring at your ride as it evolves.

Remember: JEEP; Just Empty Every Pocket... it's an addiction... lift here, mod there... You will love it!!! Im getting ready to drop a 350 into my 76'...(AMC 304 is underpowered and more costly than a 350) Plus I dont have ANY emissions where I live, so its straight headers for me.... Anyway, Good Luck!
