I just got a 84 CJ and was looking around and see that the PO replaced all of the body mounts with Hockey Pucks. I guess they must have been cheaper than the correct items.

Have you ever heard of that and I assume that I need to remove all of those and replace them with proper bushings.

I am anxious to see what else is going to pop up.

Seen it before, but never looking into the longevity of keeping them.
I'm the type that likes to use replacement or better items so to each his own.

I'm beting the wiring is gonna pop up, it's usually hacked.

It's funny for a vehicle with such simple wiring it's always hacked to hell.

Real hockey pucks? Or just hard rubber mounts? Where the hell do you get a :dung: load of hockey pucks :wtf: ?

Ha Ha. You can buy them at Sports Authority and such places. Ive seen them stacked even and used as a body lift! There are some real engineers out there ( No offense ). A body lift is like $100 shipped.

I would definately. Who knows what grade hardware our semi proffesional hockey star used? I think its time for some pics. :D

You can read Made in Yugoslavia on all of them with the cross hatching and everything. I will post a couple pictures later tonight.

OK, I have been working on CJ for about 33 years and I have to say that is one of the most fed up :dung: I have ever read / heard... :) No offense, but who in their right mind does anything like that?

I am at lost for words... :)

I've heard of guys refer to body lifts as hockey pucks, or "pucks" but never thought someone would take that literally!

I bet the PO was a "Zambonie Pilot" & got to keep all the stray pucks he could find for free. You know how one thing leads to another.

Here is the photo I promised you......

They all look like that..

I have actually read threads on other sites about where to get and how it will save money, etc. Now a body lift is around 100 clams and is ENGINEERED to be correct and last, why would someone do such for a system that some cheapscape came up with because he needed the money for new teeth.

I bet they will hold up to the harsh winter weather though...

OK I am going to be the odd man out here and say that they work great and last a very long time. How do I know? When I first got my CJ when I was 19 I had no money at all and wanted to fit my 33's on the Jeep so I heard from an old timer to use hockey pucks. $40 later I had a home built 2" lift under my body. Two years later I changed out my body for a full fiberglass tub and the hockey pucks still looked brand new so I pulled one puck off and left the other because the body needed a 1" spacer to fit properly. This was in 1992. Fast forward to 2003 when I needed to do a full frame replacement and V8 conversion. I bought all new poly mounts and 1" plastic body spacer kit to pull the pucks off. Well, after 13 years of wheeling, driving, winters and snow the puck STILL looked brand new. Hockey pucks hold up just fine and have a little flex in them to boot.

I had to edit a bit. they Flex a little

I have to go with Kane on this one, they are almost indestructible and the only question i would have had was whether they had any flex, otherwise steel plate would work as well. I think you should have a little give in these supports to tame the vibration to reduce metal fatigue at the tub mounts. I would have been surprised /amazed to see 2x4 blocks or hunks of truck tire.

what did he use to cut it with, do you know? I just have vision of some one hacking at a tite with a skill saw or something and having random hunks with holes drilled in them.

My stock rubber bushings stayed on the Jeep with the pucks so the metal was fine. I forogt to mention that.
