My footwell and tranny tunnel can get uncomfortably hot. After I pull the engine, I'd like to be able to address this issue if possible in the engine compartment.

Is this resolved with firewall insulation or coating or is it more of a matter of wrapping the exhaust?

I don't want to do anything to the interior. I already have it raptor lined in a custom color.

The search on here hasn't worked in quite a while. Anyone else?

I've experienced this too, I've contemplated header wrap, spray on heat shield, stick on heat shield...

Are you run'n 'headers'?
You can make heat shields to help dispersing the heat.

I believe the later CJs did come with a plate over the muffler and cat to keep heat off the floor boards, BTW.

What I did-I went to the street maintenance folks where I live. Ask'd if they had a couple of 'no parking' signs I could have, as the were the size I need'd.
Used some "U" bolts etc and made some very nice heat shields out of them.

That is a very good idea! I'm going to toss that around. I'm asumming the exhaust wrap isn't as effective?

A nice extra benefit would be to utilize a stop sign facing down. Might help me free up some time on the weekends and evenings. That or is a Yield sign more appropriate? Gonna have to put one under the hood as well..... :chug:

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: That's funny. Rod

In my case-I think I should be using a handicap parking sign :D

The shield idea is a great one. My '75 has some on the right side, where the exhaust bends to go under the fire wall and a couple other places. They are simple but effective. A relatively thin piece of metal standing about ~1/2" off the floor pan. With some carful measuring it would be doable to fabricate some for your hot spots.

Yes, theres a flat plate mounted under the rear bed and spaced away about 3/4". Theres also one at the front of the tub at the bottom of the firewall as the tub floor slope starts and it's right above the exhaust header. Right about where the gas pedal is.

Good luck with whatever you use, and be sure to report bach to us with pictures! Rod

Thanks for the help and suggestions. Yes, I need to remember to do that. The main project has slowed greatly now that a contractor screwed up our bathroom project. I'm in fear that I'm going to have to step in and do it myself on top of everything else .

Need to sic KSAT 12 on them. At least I think they are the ones that go after contractors. Hi from Boerne. Rod

Metal Heat shields work if the exhaust is nearby and you can isolate the shield with some air gap away from all surfaces..........stick on heat shield sheets available from Summit or Jegs work wonders.........the area they stick to must be clean without any oil...........

I went the heat shield route on my 3B with fender well headers and outside mufflers. While sign aluminum would certainly work, it's way over-kill. Anything about 22 gauge will work fine and it does work fine. I don't get any notable heat through the floor. I used a little header wrap also, but mainly to just cut the under hood temperature. I only ran it a bit past the fender opening as it will get tore of of the rest of the header by trail debris anyway. I also put heat shielding around the fender openings to keep from blistering the paint.

Wish I could but it's complicated. Friend of good friend type thing. Hind-sight is always best, right?

Boerne, very cool. We're absolutely loving this area. Best and last move I've ever made. I'll have to try out your AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with the GM Turbo 400 . Have tossed an auto around in the back of my mind.

I have the OEM Heat Shield at the gas pedal with a little bit trailing down along side the tranny tunnel. Wondering if it attracts and holds the heat instead of shielding it because it appears to be the hottest in those locations .

Waiting till I get the engine in to see where I have room to add an additional shield. Should I do some standoffs of the oem heat shield or attach them to the exhaust?

I like the looks of the DEI floor and tunnel heatshield.
