I found a Rugged Ridge XHD rear bumper and tire carrier combo on craigslist still in the box for $250 that will fit my CJ8 . I like the modular bumper look so I looked up the weight and specs. The bumper alone is 108 pounds and the tire carrier is 80 pounds. If I ever matched it with the stubby modular front then that would be another 75 pounds. 263 pounds for bumpers!!

So how much weight is too much weight for you guys? I like heavy duty where it is needed but this may be too much. The deal is good though since this would cost over $700 new.

'Balance' it out with a winch on the front.:D
Gotta say-That does sound a bit much for weight.

It does sound a bit heavy, but nothing I'd worry about. LG's right, a winch will add balance. I'd say once it's all put together you'll know where you might need to add some height if there's any sag. Stock 8's are known to sag a bit anyway, but yours may not with the glass tub.

I do have glass but I armored the whole thing and running a full hard top.

Is any part of that rear bumper attached to the body?

Well if it sags a little in the rear you can shackle up easily back there and level it out.

At that price I'd buy it and try it out. You shouldn't have a problem reselling it if doesn't balance out right. A winch and similar front bumper will even it out. I don't think the extra weight is going to stress that LS engine.

It is fully frame mounted. Being that I have the 3/16 armor I was planning to use my stock tire carrier and fab my own bumper but this is a good deal. With a 33 inch tire the stock carrier and the armor would be enough support. I am starting to think I do not need that kind of weight. I can fab a 2x4 tube bumper with receiver to have plenty of strength and be much lighter.

I haven't updated my thread in forever but I went a different route. I built my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with a comp cam, 4.0 head, header, and HEI ignition. It is no LS power but it should be plenty for the Jeep.

Totally up to you but when it's all said and done you won't be much lighter I wouldn't think. You'll have plenty of power for anything.

Think of that rear weight as have'n 2 teenagers sit'n in the back seat-all the time.......
Do agree with Peter, that at the price-You'll have no problem sell'n it, if you don't like it.

You are right Lumpy. This guy is itching to get rid of it so this would be a good deal to jump on regardless.
