So first off I just pulled my underdash unit out because its in the way of current underdash operations I have going on. It never worked when I got the CJ so while its on the ground is there a way to see if the blower is still good?

The system looks kinda simple and a lot less intimidating now that I have it out and can see what it is made of. Is it possible for a DIYer to redo and AC system like this? I would want to convert it to the new freon style. This way I dont have to worry about what COmpressor to use when I swap in a 4.0 Serp set up, I could just use the 4.0 compressor and be done with it. Or would it best to take the unit to an a/c shop and say "make it so"?

Yes you can check the blower motor on the ground just give it 12v DC and it will spin.....To convert if your going to a 4.0 use that compressor a new dryer and a expansion valve compatable to R134 that will get you going :chug:

Big fancy words! Hurt Tim's head, don't know what they are!!!

I did try to hook the blower up to my optima that I have pulled but couldn't get the fan to kick on:(

It isn't rocket surgery. The used book stores are full of cheap books.
That part about "make it so" is gonna cost you a couple of bucks.
get clever or get poor, your choice.:D

Ok seriously though I don't know what the dryer and expansion valve are or where they are located. What about the condensor the radiator looking thing? How do I make sure they are good and ready for the new Freon style?

Unfortunately some special tools are required to service you A/C system.

To answer your question regarding the condenser, you will need a vacuum pump and A/C manifold to test for leaks. The system will need to be drawn down (evacuated) and tested to see if the system can hold the vacuum.

Once you have the system together we could take it to a local shop and have them run the test and service the system with R134.

Here is a link for an article that describes basic A/C operation:

Hope this helps..........
