How to hook up tachometer?

I have the original tachometer for my 81 CJ7 but i got a new harness due to a rebuild and the wiring harness is by kwik, so, i dont really have directions on how to hook it up, can anyone tell me specifically how to hook it up, like if there is any splices. When i hooked it up to the coil and tried to start my jeep its just kept turning over but wouldn't budge. so if anyone has a correct diagram or knows how to properly connect it that would be great.

Very Generic wiring... Not sure how applicable to your rig / tach...

But the basic Principal is the same.

I've always hooked them up pretty much the same way no matter which vehicle.

Any chance you can take a pic of the back wires? Or how many / what colors you see coming off the back?

Not too familiar with your year jeep...

Hope this helps maybe a little...

Also does the jeep start without the tach hooked up?? Tach should not cause it to not start, unless grounding / shorting the other wiring...

(sorry don't mean to tell you something you already probably know...)

Again, not sure how applicable to you... But the first link shows stock wiring for 6 cly...?

The posts seem to show there is still some issues for that guy though...
