Mine ( 1984 ) came with a AMC 150 4cyl. w/T-4 and a hydraulic clutch with external slave on T-4 that was as easy and smooth as a Honda clutch pedal. That external slave was made for that Transmission only. Bolted direct to bell house. Ran very well for 35 years and I loved the hydraulic system. I changed engine and Transmission a few years back to AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and T-176 so everything new for the hydraulic system. I’m not a big fab guy and now getting to where I really don’t want to do that stuff anymore anyway. I want off the shelf if possible. I went with a YJ clutch master and found Novak had a slave and bracket that they made for AMC bell house and transmissions. It works pretty well. It is a little stiff which I have lived with and for now can live with. A little less than 3 years and probably less than 10K miles the slave is leaking and not enough pressure for the fork pressure needed .The bore on the YJ clutch master is 11/16 and Novak slave is 3/4 bore. I need them to be the same is what I have seen and read pretty much same. I ended up buying another slave from Novak and also a rebuild kit. Wondering if anyone else is using a hydraulic set up and especially this drive train. Believe me I know, a Jeep friend is trying to talk me into mechanical clutch. Maybe if I can find all the parts in good condition that might happen. I’m just wondering if anyone else is hydraulic out there ?
