I become intimate with a Jeep T-18
IO,
Is this the picture you PM for? It is from AA Buyers Guide from around `94. Still looking for my master interchange list, and Transmission & Transfer Case weights list, will post when found.

the problem is that the file as it exists on this server is Limited in size so it does not use the the entire file for the picture an so the resolution is not good enough to read it when it is enlarged to a size that old men can read.

Did you receive a pm from me with an e-mail address on it??

IO,
Sent, hope this helps.

all measurements are + 1/2", for reference all measurements will be from the front of the bell.
the bell depth is 8 1/2" the bell to Transmission adapter is 1" and the input shaft is 9 1/2" long, the shaft sticks out 3/8" past the face of the bell housing. from the front face of the bell to the center of the shifter is 14", the center of the Transmission mount is 21" the center of the front TC u-joint is 19"'. The input shaft is 10 spline and 1.117 in diameter with a bearing tip of .772 and 1" long.

A few dimensions from the 77 CJ5 with a T-150 .
the bell is 7" deep the shift center is about 14" the Transmission mount is 12" and the front u-joint is 13".

OK guys !!! need some information and you are just the guys to help me with it. In fact you are pretty much the only guys that can help. Who has a cj Transmission / bell housing/TC that they can take measurements on ?? What is the depth of the bell you have, how far does the input shaft go past the front edge, if you have an assembled bell, trany,tc to take a TC front u-joint dimension it would be great.

Of course some of these can be gotten by crawling under the jeep with a pad and pen for a few minutes.

I was going to say all I have is automatics but I think I have a bell housing down in the garage from a T-150 . Im going to be downstairs grabbing pics of stuff for sale so I can get measurements for you. Let me know what you need. :chug:

thanks

OK so what is different here ?? just about everything. The bell is 1" deeper on the T-18 but, of course the input is longer too. Have to use this bell as it matches the input length, the bearing tip of the output is larger . the front shaft is 6" longer and the rear is 6" shorter.

right now it looks like a a fabricated skid plate/cross member and some work on the tunnel cover. possibility that a bit of spontaneous creativity will be needed in the clutch fork area.:D

The numbers have been crunched and I see this as a pretty simple bolt in. Just like it belongs there. the only problem is extending the TC shifter and that is a walk in the park.

One other thing is the bearing tip on the input shaft it is quite a bit too big. .1 on the diameter. I can not think of any good reasons not to drill out a pilot bushing if need be.

I understand the cross member /skid plate needs to be dropped 7/8"+ can someone confirm this for me?

I now have to decide what needs to be repaired/replaced. I know I need seals and shift fork ends. I never found 3 of them. nothing looks scored or worn so I will have to think someone opened it before I did and lost them.

It runs smooth , by hand, and the bearings look clean and tight. there is some tooth chipping on the 1st to 2nd synchronizer ring gear and the transfer gear for reverse looks good.

Jeep lowered the cross member/skid plate 7/8" by using 7 1/8" shims per side. Is your pilot Ø .668?

Can you tell me how deep the hole in the end of the crank shaft on the l6 is??
If you have a way to measure the ID that would be fantastic.

IO,
Do not have engine PO has engine in his CJ5 .

Not a dead thread, I got sidetracked on my T-18 . Been re-putting up a fence around our place and attacking the blackberry bush that took over 1/3 of our back yard. Why does Albany only pick up yard debris twice a month? :( I'm tempted to rent a goat.

turbogus, gasoline works wonders for unwanted yard growth :D small doses albeit

I'm already at war with my neighbors, don't wanna 'fan the flames' :p

A few shots of the inside after some serious degrease r and a couple cans of brake cleaner, and a decent coat of oil.

Nice keep at it,
Turbogus, Albany only picks up yard bimonthly, because they spend to much time on all the parks we have. Just wait till the leaves get put in the streets waiting for pickup and then it rains and plugs the culverts then floods the streets then the FD gets to come unplug. See now I am going off, and don`t get me started about the Smears (blackberry`s) and the neighbors (we took a chain saw to there trees today and half the leaves are from there oak tree) or I will start cussing in Irish, then German.
Any way thanks IO.
