I don't know why the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l Inline 6 doesn't get more love. It's just a rock solid engine. It's got great low-end torque, and if it's tuned/geared right, you can comfortably drive at 60mph. Anything faster, and I'm worried about my rust bucket breaking apart.
With the spark plugs on the opposite side of the intake/exhaust, you're not melting wires, and the design frees up so much space in the engine bay, so you don't have to unbolt a fender to access it. In my humble opinion a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l /T-176 /Dana 300 is one of the best drivetrains on a CJ.
