Ok jeep was running good. But using a lot of gas kinda and hard to fill tank. In my other post I had asked about these things. Was told to check the filler tube vent line and make sure it wasn't kinked... It was good.
I also read that the fuel/air mixture screws should be 2-1/2 turns out.

My problem:
I checke the air fuel screws and one was 7 and the other was 9 turns out. I adjusted them and jeep wouldnt start, I moved the out to 6 turns and advanced the timming and got it to start... Adjust the timming back down and screw air fuel in to five turns... Drive about forty miles no problem, on the way home add a hard time idling @around 600-650 rpm so I got home and set the timming up a bit was at factory 5 degrees put at six and hooked the vacuum from pcv valve to canister.ran fine and smooth.... Turned it off, waited a few minutes and cranked it back up... It back fired through the carb with lot is smoke and wouldn't crank. So I took the line back off the canister and tried to start would start... Messed with trimming to get it to fire off... Noting... Sprayed some starter fluid and fired up but died... Now nothing just turns over and over.

Wth did I do and how do I fix it.... I know nothing about trimming and carb adjustments, but though I had read enough to test it out.

Pleas help jeep is dead!

Thanks

Not everyone will be exactly at 2.5 turns. 8 turns out sounds like you may need to rebuild, clean venturi or adjust idle. If timing was close I would leave where it is.

I would start by backing them out the 8 or whatever it takes to start. Once its warmed up good start trimming them down a 1/4 turn each at at a time. Letting it run a short amount of time between and listen to see if it starts to sputter or stall.

When it starts to sputter back off a quarter or half each. Turn it off and let it sit a minute. It should start no prob. You can take it in a little more or out.

What carb is it, you might get better help if you are specific. That's all I got :).

Had the same thing after rebuilding the carb. Check the bowl to see if its filling up properly. I pulled out the venturi cluster and cleaned it out plus cleaned out the needle seat and jets. I'm guessing I didn't thoroughly blow it out after having soaked it. I haven't had a problem since. I have a MC2100 carb and rebuilt it using these instructions. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/pdf_documents/motorcraft_2150_carb.pdf This is the first time I had done a rebuild and it was pretty easy.

I have the stock carter non computer.
I wish I wouldn't have even messed with nothing.

I am going to start fresh tomorrow and turn the screws back out and set the timming... Hopefully get it to fire off. I should have left the carb alone.
It was idling at 1000 rpm and this morning I played with it and got the idel down to 650 and had the screws on carb turned in to where it ran good. But after the drive it was idling right at 600 and wanted to die at stop signs... So I figured Id mess with it some more.... Now it's all out of whack, and I don't know where to put everything back to... Etc
Hopefully tomorrow it will cooperate with me again!

Tonight I turned the screws back out to original settings turn the dist way counterclockwise (advanced correct)
Got it to fire off but not long enough to stay running for me to get out and adjust the timming... Didn't have long to mess with it but I feel alot better hearing run again. ... Hopefully tomorrow I'll have enough time to mess with it some more.
Thanks for the help and if anybody has any other suggestions shoot em at me.

Were they full turns or just half turns. Since they were so far out, have you checked to see if the carb is tight to the manifold? Have you sprayed carb cleaner around the base of the carb to see if it is leaking?

When I needed to rebuild mine, I sprayed carb cleaner around and found out that I needed a new intake and exhaust gasket. I also found out that I needed to replace the carb to intake gasket.

Yes they are full Turns, I marked my screwdriver with a marker to make sure before I started. I know all the bolts are tight on the carb to manifold... but i havent checked for leaks.

I think I am going to go ahead and order a rebuild kit today and just go ahead and rebuild it, it would hurt anything to go ahead and do it... then I could x that problem off the list.

Thank you
